Abstract

The main aims of this study were to explore a new technique for growing molecular nanocrystals and to examine their optical properties. To grow nanocrystals, we applied a vacuum evaporation technique. Small perylene nanocrystals (ca. 200 nm) at a high density (7.6 μm-2) were produced by ultra-rapid evaporation on a pattern-indented Si surface. A perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic-3,4,9,10-dianhydride (PTCDA) buffer layer was found to be effective for further downsizing of the nanocrystals and for preserving their fluorescence properties originating from the nanoscale size effect.
