Abstract

CyberRail is an enhanced railway system which we are proposing for the realization of integrated, intermodal passenger transport in which different modes of transportation will be cooperating with each other. In this paper, we discuss the basic concept and user services of CyberRail currently under development, as well as some key technologies needed to realize CyberRail. Also discussed is the necessity of Cyberrail system architecture, which will be essential for the interoperability with systems other than railways (e.g. navigation systems for people traveling in other transportation modes). We believe that CyberRail can contribute to the realization of a safe, efficient, and comfortable intermodal transportation system, which would be impossible with the improvements of road transport alone.
