Abstract

A case of gastric leiomyoblastoma with unusual recurrence associating with mitral stenosis et regurgitation and renal failure was experienced. The patient was a 65-year-old man. There was a history of undergoing gastrectmy for a suspected submucosal tumor of the stomach, because he had massive melena during the treatment of mitral stenosis et regurgitation and chronic renal failure. Postoperatively the suspected tumor was found to be leiomyoblastoma. Three years later the patient had the recurrence of leiomyoblastoma as multiple intraabdominal masses. The recurred masses were resected as much as possible, but one year later, the patient died.
Ultrasonographic and CT examination of the recurred lesions revealed multiple cystic and solid masses, and hence the assessment of total aspects of the lesions was difficult. At autopsy, main lesions of the recurrence were divided into three parts with respect to size and examined ultrasonographically. 1) Large lesions showed coexistence of heterogenous and cystic masses due to necrosis and cystic change of the tumor. 2) Medium-sized lesions revealed almost homogenous masses. 3) The region of accumulated small lesions presented as morula like appearance.
