Seventeen patients with surgically proven degenerative lumbar disease over 70 years of age were studied clinically. All patients complained of lumbago, leg pain and numbness prior to surgery. The surgical recovery rates in the low back pain score, gait score and motor disturbance score were good but the sensory disturbance score was bad. Many patients reported complications but surgery was still an effective treatment for degenerative lumbar disease.
